Check competence and resources of all appointees.
Ÿ
Ensure there are suitable management arrangements for the project, including welfare facilities
Ÿ
Allow sufficient time and resources for all stages.
Ÿ
Provide pre-construction information to designers and contractors.
Ÿ
Appoint CDM Co-ordinator.
Ÿ
Appoint Principal Contractor.
Ÿ
Make sure the construction phase does not start unless there are suitable: -

Welfare facilities.
Ÿ
Construction plan in place.
Ÿ
Provide information relating to the Health and Safety File to mthe CDM-C
Ÿ
Retain and proviide access to the Health and Safety File.
There must be a CDM-C and Principal Contractor to the end of the construction phase.
CDM Coordinators
Ÿ
Advise and assist the Client with their duties.
Ÿ
Notify the HSE.
Ÿ
Co-ordinate H&S aspects of design work and co-orporate with others involved with the project.
Ÿ
Facilitate good communication between the Client, Designers and Contractors.
Ÿ
Liaise with the PC with regard ongoing design.
Ÿ
Identify collect and pass on Pre-construction information.

Prepare / update Health and Safety File.
Designers
Ÿ
Check the Client is aware of their duties.
Ÿ
Eliminate hazards and reduce risks during design.
Ÿ
Provide information about remaining hazards.
Ÿ
Check the CDM Co-ordinator has been appointed.
Ÿ
Provide any information needed for the Health and Safety File.
Principal Contractors
Ÿ
Plan, manage and monitor the construction phase in liaison with contractors.
Ÿ
Prepare, develop and impliment a written plan and site rules. (Initial plan must be completed before the construction phase begins).
Ÿ
Give contractors relevant parts of the plan.
Ÿ
Make sure suitable welfare facilities are provided from the start and maintained throughout the construction phase.
Ÿ
Check competence of all appointees.
Ÿ
Ensure all workers have site inductions and any further information and training needed for the works.
Ÿ
Consult with the workers.
Ÿ
Liaise with the CDM-C with regard ongoing design
Ÿ
Secure the site.
Contractors
Ÿ
Check client is aware of their duties.
Ÿ
Plan, manage and monitor own work and that of others.
Ÿ
Check competence of all their appointees and workers.
Ÿ
Comply withe specific requirements in part 4 of the regulations.
Ÿ
Ensre there are adequate welfare facilities for their workers.
Ÿ
Check a CDM-C and PC have been appointed and HSE notified before starting work.
Ÿ
Co-orporate with the PC in planning and managing the work, including reasonable directions and site rules.
Ÿ
Provide details to the PC of any contractor whom he engages in connection with carrying out the work.

Provide any information needed for the Health & Safety File.
Ÿ
Inform the PC of problems with the plan.
Ÿ
Inform the PC of reportable accidents, diseases and dangerous occurrences.

Check own competence.
Ÿ
Co-orporate with others and co-ordinate work so as to ensure the Health and Safety of construction workers and others who may be affected by the works.

Report obvious risks.

Comply with requirements in schedule 3 and part 4 of the regulations for any work under their control.

Take account of and apply the general principles of prevention when carrying out duties.
